Dunstable Downs Golf Club Celebrates James Braid’s 150th Birthday

With an invitation from Steve Harris, Captain of Dunstable Downs, Alison and Peter took part in a special tournament to commemorate the 150th anniversary of James Braid’s birth.

Now, as the name suggest, the course, a Braid original opened in 1931, is on high ground, 800ft up, with 360° views across southern England. That day, Storm Doris brought winds whistling through at about 30-40mph making it a challenge to stay upright, never mind play good golf!

We posted just-respectable scores, though never threatening the locals. More to the point the welcome was warm and friendly, with a good turnout of period costume. Well done to Steve Harris for marking the occasion with a trophy, and thank you for inviting us along.

The course is well worth a visit – but check the weather beforehand!
