In total 36 JBGS members and guests attended this event.
Day 1 Fortrose & Rosemarkie GC 20 June
A wonderfully convivial match against a friendly and competitive club. Always great fun! Amongst those doing battle are:
Bill Stephens and Dave Upchurch v George Paterson and Lewie Patience
Barrie Thomas and David Grounds v Douglas Simpson and Bruce Armour
Hamish MacCulloch and Mike Morrison v Denny Walsh and David Walsh
This year, through a superhuman effort, the JBGS achieved a draw against Fortrose and Rosemarkie, 15 points each.
Day 2 Royal Dornoch GC 21 June
This is another very enjoyable and competitive encounter, very popular with both the JBGS and Royal Dornoch members.
JBGS Captain Peter Stanbrook handing over the Friendship Trophy to Royal Dornoch Captain Alan Ramsey.
Is he reluctant to let go of it? The JBGS has never won it yet!
Watched by the ladies – obviously enjoying themselves. Can you spot the JBGS Secretary hiding – on the LHS, or was it poor photography?
The result of the match was recorded as a narrow loss by JBGS, although other versions of this result may abound – depending on who you ask.
Day 3 The Founding Meeting at Brora GC 22 June
Day 3 The Founding Meeting at Brora GC 22 June This is the society’s main Stableford competition for all the JBGS trophies including Captain Campbell’s Decanter, The Curate’s Egg and the Captain’s Pink Balls. It is followed by the society’s dinner at The Royal Marine Hotel.
On the first tee: Ross Kelly, Nick Thomas, Angela Grant and Peter Stanbrook
Alex Walker, Pat Ashe, Chrissie Perry and Bill Case
Bill Maitland, Alison Clegg, Sheila Bunton and Roy Pickavance
And then on to the dinner, all scrubbed up and ready to have fun.
And after the splendid dinner, the prizegiving. The winners receiving their prizes from the Captain were:
Angela Grant won The Captain’s Pink Balls – for the best ladies’ score
Sheila Bunton winning the Groovy Uwe Award for Triumph of Style over Substance – wearing her new Bunnet on the course.
Barrie Thomas looks very happy receiving his trophy – The Curate’s Egg for who knows what – hidden criteria, typical JBGS. Denny Walsh won The Marco Polo Award for a combination of score/effort to attend. He looks thrilled.
3rd prize went to Mike Harris Runner up was Nick Thomas
And the winner of Captain Campbell’s Decanter was Bill StephensBill Case, very kindly giving some after dinner remarks – watched by his wife Lisa.
And what do JBGS members do when they are not playing golf? Have fun visiting Dunbeath Castle gardens – the Grounds, Perrys and Stanbrooks.
And when it was all done and dusted, the Captain and Secretary had survived it all and the sun was still shining as it had done all week. Fantastic – see you all next year.
